Sustainable jobs

Our main purpose is to offer permanent and sustainable jobs to people who are long-term unemployed, growing and selling fruit, vegetables, salads and herbs to the local community and beyond. We aim to create up to 50 permanent sustainable jobs and 40 seasonal positions across all our sites for people in Cheshire, who are long-term unemployed.

A professional manager, with a strong background in horticulture and experience in the education or care sectors, will run each of our farms. Managers will be supported by highly experienced and specialist volunteers.

Each farm will employ up to two full-time and three part-time permanent staff, and up to eight full-time seasonal staff from April to September.  We will mentor our seasonal employees for two years after they leave us in order to help them find and retain permanent jobs elsewhere.  Initially all our staff will be employed on an hourly basis. It is hoped that as Bridge Community Farms develops, some of these hourly-paid employees will progress to salaried supervisory and training roles.

All permanent employees are offered specialist on-the-job training in all aspects of commercial horticulture. They will also be offered foundation skills training of a more general nature, such as budgeting, literacy and team working skills.
